GREEN cacao hot mix at sunrise, a USDA Organic daily drink with natural caffeine that replaces coffee

Does AG1 Have Caffeine? A Straight Answer (2026)

No. AG1 is caffeine-free. It's designed to be a daily nutrition drink you can take any time of day, including at night, without it affecting your sleep.

There's one small footnote worth knowing, and then a more useful question underneath it: if you're reaching for a daily greens drink partly for energy, where is that energy actually supposed to come from?

The short answer

AG1 (formerly Athletic Greens) contains no added caffeine. Older versions of the formula included a small amount of decaffeinated green tea extract, which carries trace caffeine at most. The 2025 "Next Gen" reformulation removed green tea extract entirely. Either way, there's no meaningful caffeine in a serving, and the brand positions it as caffeine-free on purpose.

Why people ask this in the first place

Three reasons usually sit behind the search:

  • "Can I take it at night?" Yes. No caffeine means it won't keep you up. Plenty of people take AG1 in the evening.
  • "Can I stack it with my coffee?" Yes. Since it brings no caffeine of its own, it won't push you over your limit. Your coffee is still your coffee.
  • "Will it give me energy?" This is the important one. AG1's pitch around "energy" isn't caffeine energy. It's the idea that covering vitamin and mineral gaps helps you feel less run-down over time. That's a real thing, but it's slow and subtle. It is not the sharp, get-me-going lift you get from a cup of coffee.

So where does daily energy actually come from?

If you're honest about what you want in the morning, it's usually two separate things:

  1. Nutrition — the greens, vitamins, and minerals AG1 is built around.
  2. Energy — an actual caffeine lift to start the day.

AG1 does the first and deliberately skips the second. Which is why a lot of people end up buying AG1 and still making coffee. Two products, two rituals, two costs.

If you want the daily drink and the caffeine in one cup

This is us, so read it with that in mind.

GREEN Organic Hydration is a USDA Certified Organic daily drink with 180mg of natural caffeine from raw green coffee beans, roughly three shots of espresso, built on Oral Rehydration Therapy for hydration, not just flavor. It's a NEXTY Award finalist for Best New Organic Product (Expo West 2024), and it's the only USDA Organic electrolyte we know of that includes natural caffeine.

The difference in one line: AG1 is a caffeine-free nutrition powder. GREEN is an organic daily drink that also replaces your coffee. Different jobs. If your morning is currently "greens powder plus a separate coffee," GREEN is the version that does the energy part for you.

Quick answers

  • Does AG1 have caffeine? No. It's caffeine-free (older versions had trace amounts from decaf green tea extract; the current formula removed it).
  • Can I take AG1 at night? Yes. No caffeine means it won't disrupt sleep.
  • Does AG1 replace coffee? No. It has no caffeine, so it won't give you a coffee-style lift. Many people take it alongside their coffee.
  • How much caffeine is in green coffee? It varies by extract. GREEN's serving delivers 180mg from raw green coffee beans, comparable to about three espresso shots.

The bottom line

AG1 is caffeine-free by design, and that's a feature if you want flexible timing or already have your caffeine handled. But if part of why you want a daily drink is the energy, AG1 leaves that job to your coffee. GREEN is built to do both in one organic cup.
