Black tea leaves, iced tea with lemon, and raw green coffee beans on slate

Does LMNT Have Caffeine? A Straight Answer (2026)

No. LMNT's standard electrolyte drink mix is caffeine free. There is exactly one exception in the lineup: the Lemonade Iced Tea flavor, which contains 50 mg of naturally occurring caffeine from organic black tea powder. Every other flavor has zero.

That is the whole answer for most people. But if you searched this, you are probably really asking one of three things: can I drink it at night, will it give me energy, or is there a version that combines caffeine and electrolytes in one drink. Here is each one, with real numbers.

The short answer, flavor by flavor

LMNT's formula is built on salt. Each stick pack delivers 1,000 mg of sodium, 200 mg of potassium, and 60 mg of magnesium, sweetened with stevia leaf extract, according to LMNT's own ingredients page.

Caffeine in LMNT:

LMNT product Caffeine per serving Source
Citrus Salt, Watermelon Salt, Raspberry Salt, Chocolate Salt, Raw Unflavored, and the rest of the standard lineup 0 mg None
Lemonade Iced Tea 50 mg Organic black tea powder

LMNT states that the Lemonade Iced Tea flavor also carries L-Theanine and tea polyphenols along with its 50 mg of naturally occurring caffeine. Every other flavor lists no caffeine source at all: the base formula is salt (sodium chloride), magnesium malate, and potassium chloride, plus flavoring and stevia.

How much caffeine is 50 mg, really?

Context from the FDA's consumer guidance on caffeine: a 12 ounce cup of brewed coffee typically contains 113 to 247 mg of caffeine, a 12 ounce black tea contains about 71 mg, and a 12 ounce green tea about 37 mg. The FDA cites 400 mg a day as an amount not generally associated with negative effects for healthy adults.

So LMNT's one caffeinated flavor sits between a green tea and a black tea, and well below even the weakest cup of coffee. It is a light lift, not a coffee replacement.

One timing note. The European Food Safety Authority puts caffeine's half life at roughly 2 to 8 hours in healthy adults, commonly summarized as about 5 hours (EFSA Journal 2015;13(5):4102). Even a 50 mg dose taken in the late afternoon is still partly active at bedtime. The zero caffeine flavors have no such clock attached, which is exactly why LMNT keeps most of the lineup caffeine free.

Why people ask this in the first place

Three questions usually sit behind the search:

  • "Can I drink LMNT at night?" Yes, for every flavor except Lemonade Iced Tea. The standard flavors bring no caffeine, so timing does not matter for sleep.
  • "Will LMNT give me energy?" Not stimulant energy. Sodium is not a stimulant. If you feel better after a stick pack, that is hydration doing its job, not caffeine. Anyone expecting a coffee style lift from a salt based mix will be disappointed.
  • "Is there an LMNT with caffeine?" Sort of. The Lemonade Iced Tea flavor is the only one, at 50 mg. People searching for a real caffeine plus electrolytes drink usually want more than that, which is the next section.

Caffeine and electrolytes, side by side

Here is how the actual options compare on caffeine, using each brand's own published numbers and FDA figures for coffee:

Drink Caffeine per serving Caffeine source
LMNT, standard flavors 0 mg None
LMNT Lemonade Iced Tea 50 mg Organic black tea
Brewed coffee, 12 oz 113 to 247 mg Coffee beans
GREEN Hot Mix or Cold Mix 180 mg Raw green coffee beans

Worth knowing: coffee itself is a poor electrolyte source. USDA composition data puts brewed coffee at roughly 116 mg of potassium and only about 5 mg of sodium per 8 ounce cup. So the common two drink routine, an electrolyte mix plus a separate coffee, exists because neither product does the other one's job.

If you want the caffeine and the electrolytes in one cup

This is us, so read it with that in mind.

GREEN Organic Hydration is a USDA Certified Organic daily drink mix with 180 mg of natural caffeine from raw green coffee beans, roughly three shots of espresso, with an electrolyte formula based on the science of Oral Rehydration Therapy. It was a NEXTY Award finalist for Best New Organic Product at Expo West 2024, and it is the only USDA Organic electrolyte we know of that includes natural caffeine. The Hot Mix is a cacao drink you make with hot water in the morning. The Cold Mix is a tropical drink you shake into cold water.

The difference in one line: LMNT is a salt first, caffeine free electrolyte mix (with one 50 mg tea flavor). GREEN is an organic coffee replacement with the electrolytes already in the same cup.

If your current routine is an electrolyte packet plus a separate coffee, GREEN is the version that collapses that into one drink. Quick answers

  • Does LMNT have caffeine? No, with one exception. The standard flavors are caffeine free. Lemonade Iced Tea has 50 mg from organic black tea.
  • Which LMNT flavor has caffeine? Only Lemonade Iced Tea, at 50 mg per stick pack.
  • Can I drink LMNT at night? Yes, any flavor except Lemonade Iced Tea. The rest contain no caffeine.
  • Is 50 mg of caffeine a lot? No. The FDA puts a 12 ounce brewed coffee at 113 to 247 mg and cites 400 mg a day as the general ceiling for healthy adults.
  • What has both caffeine and electrolytes? GREEN delivers 180 mg of green coffee bean caffeine with a full ORT based electrolyte profile in one cup. For more options with real numbers, see our caffeinated electrolyte drinks guide.

The bottom line

LMNT is caffeine free by design, one tea flavor aside, and that is a feature if your caffeine is already handled. But if you searched "LMNT with caffeine" because you want the lift and the hydration in a single drink, 50 mg of tea caffeine is not really that product. GREEN is designed to be exactly that: one organic cup that does the coffee's job and carries the electrolytes with it.
